Anyone ever take karate?

No I have not taken any Karate training though I had the wish to take one. It is one of the most effective self protection mechanism.

I've never taken any karate, but I did take a down-and-dirty very intensive self defense class called Model Mugging. The "attacker" actually wears full protective gear so that you can fight back full force, hitting and kicking, without having to worry about harming him. Of course, the most important thing they taught us was how to avoid conflict by being assertive and taking charge of the situation.

I thought I'd forgotten all of it until a few months ago, I was leaving a client's home late at night and heard footsteps behind me. I turned around, saw a strange man, and shouted in a voice that could have raised the dead, "Who are you and why are you following me?" He stared at me for a second, then turned and ran like hell. I'm normally very soft-spoken, but even all those years later I remembered how to let loose with a full-throated, intimidating yell!

As of yet, I have not enrolled in a Karate course. This is something that I have considered so that I would feel a little better able to protect myself.

Im a grey belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. Its basicly a slopped together grappling/ defensive/offensive program. It leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion though.

I have tried karate for about two years and I can say it really had helped me improve on my confidence. I learned Aikido so I can say it is meant for protections basically.
