They may work against a highly inexperienced intruder, but as most robbers ignore CCTV cameras when they ARE operational, they would do the same to your fake ones... and you wouldn't even see them at all.
I should think the money would be better spent elsewhere. |

Don't know - IMO it's simply the deterrent issue.
Sure, some people aren't going to be deterred by anything - but a lot of criminal damage and break-in I believe is down to opportunism - so killing that element with any kind of deterrent has to be good for something. ![]() |

Fake cameras are a no-no! You give a false sense of security to your employees. If something happens to them and the tape needs to be pulled, guess what? where is the tape. Major Liability towards employer.

I would think they would be a good deterrent for using at home. A lot of the burgleries around our area seem to be done by kids. I am sure if they seen a camera they might think twice. It couldn't hurt.

I would not use fake cameras in the workplace, but perhaps at home they would be okay. How much good are they? Well, IMO they would work as well as locks on doors and windows - they keep an honest person out, but do little to deter someone who is determined to get into your home and rob you of your belongings.

You are probably right, ninikins. Perhaps when the idea was new and novel, it scared some folks away. But I can't help but think a really godo fake would cost almost as much as a cheap real one these days, so why not go for the real thing?

First thing that CCTV systems should achieve is their realibility and durability, other features and image quality would come second for me.
I've been dealing with some distributors throughout the years, according to them, initial image quality with these fake cameras are good, but after a few months problems will emerge. I.e. glass or lens will be smoked, IRs start to deteriorate, image quality begins to go no matter how you adjust the brightness and contrast settings etc. If you are lucky, you may not have come across with the problems, but if the cameras are for business purpose I would rather spend a bit more on their realiabilty and durability. |
