Have you ever met someone who you felt you needed to do a background check on? Or maybe you'd like to know what data are known about you? Here's more:
Intelius is one of hundreds of sites that offer consumers the ability to perform background checks on anyone. No license required. No permission slip required. Just type in a name and a state, and up comes a list of potential targets. Select a name from a list that looks about right, pay about $50. http://redtape.msnbc.com/2006/05/bob_the_writer_.html |

There are so many crazy people wandering around these days that even if you think they are ok and that you can trust them that is not always the case. I think especially in the case of children you can never be too safe. It would be good to do a background check and talk to other people that have dealt with them.

While I see where these services are good for some things, I also wonder about how accurate they are. For instance, I did a test not long ago because I ran across the name of someone that I know. For $29.95, it told me he lived at a house which I know he sold 6 years ago, that he was on the voter rolls which isn't true because he isn't even a citizen, the telephone number was years out of date, and they had his age wrong ...it was off 11 years! Makes me wonder.

Contacting local law enforcement can help point you in the direction of sources that would have up to date information. You may pay a little more, but when you are talking about the reputation of the person you are looking to hire, as well as the safety of the people he or she will be around, you can consider the money well spent.
