It's been a few years, but I believe the gist of her story was that she was married to a horribly abusive man who threatened to harm her if she didn't get him the drugs he demanded, and that she only stole because she was in fear of her life. We later learned that she and her husband had separated and he was in another state when the thefts occurred, nor was she dating anyone who would have threatened her. She was just a junkie looking for her fix at the expense of the patients who trusted her.

9 out of 10 times when someone steals they are also integrity violators too.

This nurse certainly an integrity violator. Not only had she lied to all of us, but she stole medicine from our most vulnerable patients, the ones she knew wouldn't be believed or would be identified as "drug seekers" if they complained the medicine didn't work or asked for something stronger. Up until the time she was caught doing that, she and I had been friends, but we haven't spoken since the day I saw the evidence against her.

That is just so terrible that someone would do something like that. And to pick people that really needed that medicine is just terrible. But you're right that's why she picked them.

So, back to the original question...which was pretty interesting ...would you hire that nurse again? She probably lost her license but could still do some health care work, right?
