Default ATM safety

Aways protect your personal identification number. Do't use your PIN if someone can see the screen or keypad. When you complete your transaction, be sure you have your card and receipt and lthen leave immediately. Avoid counting large amount of cash.

I always look around and make sure no one can see me put in my pin number. The other thing is I never go to the ATM at night by myself.

Also while you finish off you transaction do not forget to stay some more time in the counter before you let others come into the counter. It gives you the time to check whether you are not leaving anything in the counter.

I find some of the placement of ATMs bothering. In some cases, if the ATM is in a store, it's like everyone can see the monitor so I try to avoid those situations.

I have a store which has an ATM inside, but in an secluded enough area you feel safe no one can see your pin.

I would say the best advice is not to trust ANYONE with your pin number. I have heard more horror stories of "Friends" stealing people's bank cards and money than anything else.

I think ATM's are a good thing but you really do have to be careful when using them. But you also have to be careful when using them at the store also. Make sure you pay attention to what is going on around you. You never know when someone is watching and recording the information you are putting in.

The "do not trust anyone" makes quite a lot of sense; if someone wants to be close to you when you input your PIN number, then there's some mischief at work.

ATM's are certainly a great facility but it's all about knowing how to be remain careful while a transaction is on. Moreover as said already do not trust anyone.

How about taking along a friend when you are off to the ATM? One of my buddies and I tag team at the ATM. While he is doing his transaction, I stand back to back with him, so no one else can get close enough to see the screen. Then we change places and I use the ATM. We are both over six feet and not exacly small people, so we provide each other with adequate coverage.

I think there are countries and different state right now who has an ATM on their respective police stations. I think this is a great way to make ATMs more secured, especially at night.
