Carbon Monoxide is the main cause of death by poisoning. The cause of CO poisoning is often a faulty fuel-burning furnace, oven, water heater, space heater, wood stove, or fireplace. So, you should maintain those appliances properly to prevent the risk.

I heard that the several US based corporations are requesting the President to take further steps to ensure better care of nature. I think those devices which emits maximum Carbon Momoxide will be taken care of.

My landlord has the venting system and the various appliances checked at least once a year. Also, he has a monitoring device in every apartment in the complex. He said the same thing - they do not cost that much and they not only can save lives, but they also can alert to a problem early on and it can be addressed before it causes any really big problems.

I think the CM detectors are very important to have in the home ...some potential causes of carbon monoxide leaking are things that we don't get checked often enough especially if it is in the off season.

Yes, it's very important to buy a carbon monoxide detector, especially if you live in an older home that may have developed leaks over the years.
Also be aware for feeling "funny" or high (when you know you're not), slurring words, becoming suddenly forgetful, having a hard time waking up from sleep. If you experience any of those symptoms, get your home tested right away! |

These monitors actually saved my brother and his family a couple of years back. They had a leak in there furnace venting and the alarm alerted them to there being a problem. If they hadn't had this they would have been completely in the dark and it may have been to late before they knew something was wrong.

The monitors are a good idea, but as I understand it, they produce a several false negatives (e.g., saying there's nothing there when really there is). So...even if your monitor says everything's good, it's still important to call the gas company ASAP if you (or someone close to you) is noticing symptoms!
