Passwords are used for protecting your business and other personal informations. So, you should be careful about choosing a perfect password. You should not written down your password anywhere. .If a password must be written down, it should be locked up and stored in a place that is difficult for others to access and you should change your password atleast once in 30 days.

The problem with creating the perfect password--random characters and numbers--is that if I don't write them down I forget them. I'm sure I'm signed up for dozens of boards around the internet that I no longer know how to access.

In case of boards or email systems that have a "forgotten password" and "secret question" section to reset passwords I always use the same answer for all secret questions. And the answer has nothing to do with any question. Whether it's favorite pet or mother's maiden name I use the same answer. No one could guess it and since I use it always I don't forget it.
My stepson had his MSN account hijacked by a person he chatted with. The kid had first accessed his secret question "favorite pet's name" and then in chat he asked my stepson what his favorite pet was and then the name. Next time my stepson logged in the password was changed and he could no longer use his account. And how many people in chat wouldn't reveal things not even thinking of it being part of their security? And if your secure passwords are in an email they could do severe damage to you. Secret questions may have not so secret answers. My stepson learned the lesson quickly. I use the same password for most of my emails etc. and a different one for boards and forums and another for banking and high security things like Paypal. Only my wife knows them. |
