Ten major US corporations alongwith environmental groups are pressing the President George W.Bush and the Congress to raise the issue of climate changes more frequently. Source : Reuters ( I cannot post URL's now).
I think finally we have hope of some improvement in this area. Till now we were only getting the feedbacks of more and more environmental disastars. |

Thanks for the links ...now I understand.
It's a real question because I worry that if sanctions are made mandatory, it will hurt the economy, but also agree that if it is voluntary, we probably can't achieve a level that will make a difference. There are also some reports floating around from the oil companies, with some good scientific evidence behind them, that the carbons aren't nearly so bad as we thought. |

I feel that the positive things are at least now there are some serious efforts to solve the problem. It might be quite some time before anything of note might be achieved but the process have started.

A thought process has started but we aren't seeing a lot of cooperation from the manufacturers who sell us thing that use hydro-carbons either. I'm a little surprised, for instance, that even the hybrid cars aren't being worked on harder.

This has been the situation since the launch of Earth Day theirty-five plus years ago. Someone will decide something needs to be done, there will be a flurry of activity and then things settle back into the same old pattern. New tricks come slowly to most of us.

Part of the problem is our consumption of oil. While the average person is very aware what reliance and consumption of oil does, the alternatives are either more expensive, inconvenient and the manufacturers of things like cars, heating systems, etc. have been slow to offer solid alternatives.

As the situation is developing unless we do something on our own there will never be a major development or improvement in this regard. We have to be more dependant on alternative nature friendly technologies. The problem is these technologies are not used by many and a bit costlier also.

We also have to be less dependent on Middle Eastern oil resources ...there's oil in large quantities in both Africa and India ...onshore and offshore.
