Default Sliding door

I think, sliding doors are less secure, and should be avoided if possible. Double-door sets incorporating one fixed door and one working door within a sliding door-sized opening are much more secure.

Agreed - open out doors with a really nice lock could well be more secure.

I'm not a big fan of sliding doors anyway - they tend to come off track at the worst possible moments and it is so easy to lift a door out of the track and then replace it. I lived in an apartment complex several years ago and a number of the units were robbed by that very method.

I've never liked sliding doors ....they're just a lot of ugly glass that doesn't work too well, and the screens are so cheesy and need replacing all the time!

Of course, any large doors with glass opening to the outside need to be secured and alarmed.

I know some folks like lots of light, but that is what lots of small window panes are for. They create a barrier that is harder to get through and still let in lots of natural light.

I agree. Sliding doors became fashionable when ...in the 50s? It's like one of the inventions that just stuck around because they were cheap and easy to install.

I know my friend had sliding doors and it seemed as if they could easily be as someone else mentioned taken off the track and then put back on after someone was in the house.

Almost the same as shower stall doors ...same principal and we know they fall off the track all the time. Down with sliders, I say! LOL.

I also am not a big fan of sliding glass doors either. We we had them we were forever putting them back on track. I just found them to be an awful pain.

My family installed just recently a sliding door in the new wing of our house, and we had also installed an sliding iron gate on top of it.
