Default Door locks

On outside exit doors, buy locks that have locking tongues. Test this by holding the door open and locking the knob. Then attempt to depress the tongue into the door with your finger. Better locks will have a secondary tongue that doesn't move. The best locks will have entire tongues that don't move.

My kids are such sneaky ones and they don't like being locked out. Always trying to pick my locks, they just don't understand. I have went with the added protection of the double "tongue"

I think another important thing to remember when moving into a new house is to have all the locks changed. No matter where you live and how safe it is, you just don't know who all has a key. It seems like an obvious thing but I've seen so many people who don't bother because of the expense.

I have always ensured to check the locks while moving out of the house. I have a chain system also as a backup.

Changing the locks when moving in to a new place is a good idea. It's true that you never know who the previous tenant gave keys to or if they may have decided to keep one for themselves

I actually never thought about that... but I didn't move often either.

Makes total sense though

I never really worried about that either because I only moved a couple of times. Kind of scary though when you think about it!
