Default Lock Bumping

I am wondering if anyone has heard about this. I saw an article about this and its where people take any key and even though it doesnt fit perfectly into the lock they tap on it until it goes in and unlock your door. I saw a demonstration on it and it's pretty scary to see how easy it is to break in.

I've heard of it and it's one of the many reasons I switched to using magnetic keys some years ago. They don't look like a standard key ...a straight flat surface ...the magnets are specially keyed to fit the lock and won't trip unless they match up. Your signature goes on file at the lock smith and no copies can be made without i.d. and matching signature.

That's a really interesting concept. I have never heard of it before but it sounds like it would be a way to steer clear of having someone be able to use the lock bumping in that situation. Thanks for sharing the information

This is a very interesting concept. As nowadays it will not be wise to depend only on manual locks I think it is better to try other options as well.

There are several options ...stop into a locksmith's shop sometime and have a look at them. Like I mentioned, they aren't as inexpensive as standard locks, but they do exist!

I had never heard of this before reading this post. This might be something for me to bring to the attention of my landlord. Thanks for the heads up!

This must be the reason people use other security options alongwith locks. That would ensure a better security when you are off.

It may be more costly but in the long run you may save money or even more if it keeps someone from breaking inot your home!

To prevent bumping attacks just go to your local locksmith and ask for a restricted key section or a brand like multi lock. Bumping can be a very easy method of entry but it also requires having a key that will go in your particular lock and it takes practice. Dont believe the hype too much.

This is new to me. I had never heard of you being able to do this with a different key. What exactly is a restricted key though?
