With the recent events that happened in Viginia what are some of the ways that colleges could notify everyone that there is a problem on campus. I ask this because someone on the new the other day said why don't they have an speaker where an alarm would sound. Kind of like a tornado warning would work. The person said that with the recent bomb threats they had the week before that alot of the students would disregard the alarm after so false alarms. I just don't see how email would work. Not everyone checks there email all the time.

These are good points, tater03. I would love to see colleges set up speaker systems to warn students away from buildings with security threats. Of course, they'd have to be careful not to overuse the system for every little scuffle, or people would start to ignore it. But for true emergencies, like the one at Virginia Tech...yeah, I think I a good speaker system might have saved lives.

I would also like to see colleges hire more professional security guards. I know where I went to school, the campus police were a joke. I don't know what they would have done if they had ever come across an actual crime in progress. They were real handy with parking tickets, but that was about it. I think colleges need highly trained security who can respond instantly to crisis situations.
