Default Fake security system

I'm seeing more and more homes put notices on their windows to the effect of, "This property secured by ABC Corporation" when they don't have a home security system at all.

It used to seem like a really good idea when I first saw that, but now that so many people are doing it, I bet the professional criminals are learning to tell which houses really are wired for security and which aren't. The signs would probably still dissuade kids looking for easy money to get drunk or high, but I'm guessing someone who really knew what he/she was doing could tell the difference.

What do you all think?

You're probably right in that any professional criminal will pay very little attention to these window stickers but I suppose any small deterrent is better than nothing......

If you're going the fake route, my favorite solution that friends used is a motion sensor which triggers the recording of a big dog barking inside the house. They've not had a soul around their house lol.

These I feel are good options if you cannot afford to get a security system. I know that it would stop a few kids around here I am sure. I know it would make me think twice, especially if I heard a dog barking.

A good theif can figure out how to beat a security system that is actually present, so it probably wouldn't matter if it was fake or not.

Luckily, thieves that break into homes are rarely ambitious enough to develop intricate methods of beating security systems.

Where we live, no one but the "richy" people have security systems and people don't have "fake" notices either, if they have the notice here, then they have the system. I don't think that you can fool a professional criminal.

Fake systems work but so do fake images of law enforcement or humans.

For a while there was a cardboard cutout of a police officer in the glass doors to a local pharmacy that looked like a rel person until you got close enough to tell the different. A good artist's rendering of a Doberman or Rott...sculpture or cardboard cut out, might have the same effect if you remembered to move it around periodically so that it was in a different spot throughout a 24 hour period!

In my experience these days it isnt the professional anymore, well not in the way you think of proffesional, its the opportunist that you have to look out for, just to pop round next door for a cup of tea, or to get the kids from school, all cases of burglary that i have had first hand experience of in the last two weeks, dont get me wrong these scum bags are proffesional, but there in and out so quick! You can now buy dummy bell boxes of ebay and i know a company that will remain nameless that sells dummy bell boxes, the problem is the scum know wich ones they are, all you can do is buy yourself some time, make it hard for them.

Home security is one of main issue discussed today. Buying a home is easy but making the home secure is a serious issue. If you are not bothered about home security, it can cause many serious problems.

Various security products for each and every parts of the home are available in the market today. Various security products include emergency exit, security shutters, roller garage doors, safety gates and much more. The main security with respect to home is the entrance gate. Many varieties of security gates are available. Thus you should more cautious regarding the security of the house.

One thing to remember Cassiem is RIGHT, you can't fool a pro (professional criminal).
