There has recently been a huge increase in the number of homes robbed each week in the area that I live in. I was just wondering what were the best security measures to take to prevent your home to be targeted.. Thanks in advance!

I keep things in front of windows, like shelves with plants, so it seems inconvenient for someone to get in. I also close and lock windows, even if I will be out in the yard. That way they can't get in the back while I am out front, and vice versa.

I bought a beware of dog sign quite some time ago. I thought the same thing... I know many very "big" men that are terrified of dogs so I thought it wouldn't hurt. I think I will get one of the outside lights that detect movement this weekend. I'm sure that would be a wise thing and I could also use that for myself! Thanks for the tips gals!

Be sure to keep doors and windows locked (fully 30% of thieves report they don't have to "break" in because they got in through an unlocked door or window). If you own your own house, get a metal or solid wood door--hollow doors are just too easy to kick in. If you have a sliding glass door, secure it with a heavy wood or metal dowel. Don't plant bushes or shrubs that would conceal a thief around your window (unless those bushes or shrubs have thorns--in that case it's a good idea).
Good luck and stay safe. ![]() |

Sounds like your windows are pretty well detected. As for the doors, I would say get the best door and the best lock you can afford. When one of my friends lived in a high-risk neighborhood, she took to leaving a couple of sacks of tin cans and rocks in front of her door at night. Not only couldn't you move them without them making a godawful racket, they were heavy. No thief ever bothered her.

You all have some good points, As i said in anther post all you can do is buy your self time, I agree with locks, buy the very best! At the end of the day its the saying "you get what you pay for" and you dont want to pay for having poor locks, there is some more info on my site the link is below.
