Here in the UK it's not an issue - but I'd like to hear about the issue from people in countries such as the US, where firearms can be permitted for civilian use.
Do you actually carry one? If not, why not? IF so, why so - and does it really make you feel safer, or simply instill a greater sense of responsibility? I'm simply curious about the replies. |

No, I don't carry a gun, and I have found that it is exceedingly rare for someone to actually carry. Most people who own guns have them tucked away int heir homes in case they are burglarized.
Besides, carrying a concealed weapon is illegal, so if you have a permit to own one, you must keep it in plain view of everyone. |

I am from a different country but residential in Britain.
I am part of a what we would call 'Shooting Club' ,I do posess a licence to carry, but not for personal use....personal protection is first and foremost through through risk assessment (You are no.1) PREVENTION before ACTION.....and there are of course other ways of protection. However I do not agree with people from whatever country whom are carring guns for personal use.....if it is for duty purposes fine....it is too easy for a accident to happen.... |

Hi, my name is Barry Schofield, I have been in the security environment for the past 30 years, some military, some police, and a lot in the civil sector, I have travelled all over the world in a civilian capacity and have been in company of those who carry weapons. I have never met anyone yet who has not been responsible, and who have treated the weapon as a final resort to violence. However we only have to look at the world in general to know that in some cases the opposite rules apply, but I hope and believe that this is a minority and not the norm.

No I don't carry a gun. Although after 9/11, I thought about it. Should there ever be another attack where all hell breaks loose and there's panic, it's probably not a terrible idea to have one, but I figure if we ever get to that point, we're screwed anyway.

I live in the US, and I don't carry a gun or any sort of weapon for that matter. I've heard that in some cases an attacker may actually disarm you of the gun and use it against you if you're caught off guard, and that just scares me. I'm not anti-gun, by the way. It's just not for me.

No I do not carry a gun mainly because I am just not a gun person. I didn't grow up around them and I have been taught how to protect myself without the use of one. I prefer to carry a knife when I need to, which is only when my husband or brother-in-law aren't with me. I just can't use guns. They make me nervous and I guess with all the accidents that have happened to children, I didn't want to risk my children. Because no matter how much you teach them otherwise, their curiosity can win over intelligent choice in some cases. Any comments? Questions? |

I agree with you Cpilcher. If you do have a gun with kids around, you're taking a risk in my opinion - no matter where you hide it... My wife carries mace with her. Anyone here carry mace?
