Default Mace and Other Personal Weaponry

Years ago, mace and pepper spray were all the rage but seemed to be rather ineffective against someone who was truly bent on doing the user harm.

In light of this, what other personal weapon would you consider to be MORE effective than these items, without having to buy a fire arm?

What about the stun guns? But I am not to sure if your average person on the street can have these or if they are only for the police? I would think they would be a good alternitive.

I took a really intensive defense course called Model Mugging that taught you how to use your body to fight off an attacker. The attacker was dressed in full protective gear so you could fight back full force without worrying about hurting him. The simulated attacks only stopped when you achieved a blow that would knock out an ordinary human being.

The philosophy in that class was that a weapon can always be taken away from you, but you will have your body to use as a weapon no matter what.

You know you are so right. Learning how to do a defensive type karate or something like that would be very helpful.

Stun guns are interesting. I would want one that shot little barbs out though. nothing that lets someone closer than an arms length would make me feel more secure!

You should do an online search of these. They have them! LOL .. I don't know if it is legal or not, but I do know that they have a gun that you point and shoot at the person and it zaps them on contact.. A person could have fun with one of these

The UK seems bent on taking away the basic human right of personal defense. And I hate to be blunt here but if you can't use almost any means at your disposal to defend yourself against a violent attack then that's a complete violation of one of our most basic human rights.

Nothing can be carried in the UK that can harm someone else. That includes all forms of non-lethal (but possibly painful) defense such as pepper spray or tear gas and also would include stun guns. We wouldn't want a mugger to be put in pain would we? Heaven forbid! Then they wring their hands over here about the thugs and yobs running the streets. Well how do you expect anyone to friggin defend themselves? And if four thugs start kicking you to death on the public sidewalk not one person will have the nerve to come to your aid. Why? Because they don't have the strength. No law abiding citizen has the personal firepower to take them on.

There's only one defense you can be assured won't land you on assault charges and that's to use your phone to dial 999 and wait on the police to get there some time in the next 15 minutes or so. We had a violent rapist attack a woman for over 12 hours while the flat was surrounded by police. They wouldn't go in until he fell asleep. Another guy opened his door and was sucker punched by a ball bat to the face. The man proceeded to attempt to kill him on his front walk while neighbours stood around and watched. The attacker declared he was going to finish him off and succeeded in placing the man into a life threatening coma. What did the sheriff give the callous jerk? Probation!! Three years probation!! For attempting to murder someone!!! He'll sure be afraid to do that again won't he?

You can buy gooey spray with UV marker and that's all you can do here. It's ridiculous how they've tipped the balance in favour of the hoodies and yobs. When I lived in Alabama, if I had been carrying my 45 and laid to waste a couple of muggers they would have pinned a medal on me. Here if I were to hit one of them with a walking stick I would be the one facing charges of gross bodily harm. The poor career criminals should be able to ply their trade without worrying about getting hurt. And to be honest, they only fear each other.

Sorry about the rant here but this has gone beyond ridiculous in the UK.
