Hello and what a great forum you people have.
I need a good QUALITY CCTV system for the outside of our house. I would like some recomendations is possible as I think I will need a few cameras. I would like the front back and possibly sides covered of our house. I also have a large games cabin in the back garden that I would like monitored. Im hopinf as our drive is small that if we have a cctv at the front of our house it will cover the 3 cars on the drive. Ill now explain some more about the house and cabin. House: ADT alarm *sigh* has given me a lot of trouble. Detached 2 Floors Driveway with 3 cars other houses close by either side approx 2 meters either side. gate to back garden at the right of the house. no automatic / sensor lighting at the front of house 1 automatic / sensor lighting in the back garden that picks up any movement near the cabin. Cabin: Wooden cabin approx 10 metres away from house in back garden cabin is approx 10 meteres by 6 meters. at the back of cabin are more houses, very close there is an alley in between the houses at the back of the cabin On top of the above, Id like somthing small in the cabbin itself, maybe wireless? Ive read on your forums wireless system arent that great but this wouldnt need to be fantastic quality. I realise my descriptions arent great, I CAN take pictures, but im not sure if thats allowed or weather its advertising for theifs!! Im after a good top system, I dont want ADT to do it for me as our alarm gives us a lot of hassle and im not impressed with there aftersales / servicing and i know i could probably get a better system elsewhere. Thanks guys. |

Hi badadd - welcome to CCTV core.
![]() As for recommendations - not sure if they can help, but you could try somewhere like Pakatak Security & Surveillance Products Alternatively, we have a few users here who may be able to help, such as iStorm: Home Hope that helps. ![]() |

Hi Badadd, Thanks Brian, With Home cctv the object of the exercise is to get the customer the system thay are happy with, a system that will do what they want it to do, but the hardest part is cableing neetly! That we have years of experience in lol, You have two choices open to you, well three but the third can be very expencive, You can go for a Digitaly P.C Based system Or Dvr, either would offer networking so the camera's can be viewed from anywhere in the world! Alarm buzzers to signal visitors or intruders, event only recording, and on and on! In all honesty you realy need a property survey, a good surveyor or engineer should be able to recomend a system to suit both your requirments and budget! I dont blame you going back to ADT you will find more quality engineers with the smaller companies, (in my opinion) Please feel free to drop me a call if i can help any more or answer any questions! Cheers

Thanks Brian & iStorm. Ive also had many PM's giving me great advice, Ive taken a few photos of my house and cabin area, whilst weary, giving them out to selected people / companies for their opinion. Im still baffled by the many options I can go for, which isn't a bad thing as I have more choice. Through peoples opinions so far heres what I've concluded:
Night vision camera's aren't great in terms of quality and can attrach wildlife! So it would be a better option to go for a security light as well as a good camera with good lense. I only need 3 cameras. Ive had quotes ranging from £500 - £1500 Im doing more and more research eah day (i do need it installing soon!) and am finding more and more things out. I just: a) dont want to get ripped off b) dont want more than I need c) want the right person to install, dont want to get ripped off, have been told a good electrician can do this. Ill keep you updated with what system im thinking of choosing and who im getting to install. |

Hi Badadd,
I can't really speak as an expert but if you only need one camera to be wireless (in the cabin) and it's outside the house then it's possible that you may not run into the same problems I had with wireless internet router interference since the cameras are relatively low power. A good quality camera may be less likely to cause problems than a cheap Chinese one from Ebay like I have. Also, only using one camera allows you to switch routers etc. to a frequency channel outside the single camera range. You will have problems with any wireless system I think as far as static. This doesn't really create a serious problem for me except with regard to motion detection. Any flicker starts the motion detection immediately. Good luck with whatever you come up with and let us know how well it works. Last edited by Jim; 01-24-2008 at 12:34 PM. |
